Imran Khan ‘laughed upon’ hearing £190m case verdict: Aleema Khan

laughed upon’ hearing £190m case verdict:

LAHORE: According to Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), laughed while hearing the verdict against him in the £190 million corruption case on Saturday.

She told reporters outside a Lahore court, “The PTI founder laughed when he heard the verdict. According to Geo News, “We have entrusted our matter to Allah.”

The ousted prime minister was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Friday after an accountability court found Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi guilty in the £190 million case, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The 72-year-old Imran has been detained since August 2023 on charges related to almost 200 cases, but his party says the most recent conviction was intended to coerce him into leaving politics.

A day after PTI leaders met with the government once more for discussions aimed at reducing political tensions, the conviction was made. Barrister Gohar Khan, the chairman of the PTI, recently met with General Asim Munir, the chief of army staff.

Following his conviction, the cricket player-turned-politician told reporters inside the courthouse, “I will neither make any deal nor seek any relief.”

The pair was found guilty of graft related to the Al-Qadir Trust, a humanitarian foundation they founded, by the anti-graft court that met in the Adiala jail where Imran is being detained.

“The prosecution’s case has been established. Judge Nasir Javed Rana declared, “Imran is convicted,” and sentenced the PTI founder to 14 years in prison and Bushra to seven years.

Aleema emphasized that the £190 million is in the government’s hands, not Imran’s, and stated that the existing system needs to be corrected in her interview with media.

According to her, the former premier also requested that the judge make the decision public as soon as possible since he intended to appeal it in a higher court. “Once this case lands in the high court, the verdict will be overturned.”
